The Short Answer
No. The Village of Bronxville is its own incorporated village in the Town of Eastchester, Westchester County, not part of Yonkers or the Bronx. But about two in three homes with a Bronxville 10708 mailing address, 6,431 of 9,824 in 2020 Census block data, sit in the City of Yonkers.
Only 2,505 homes, about one in four, are inside the village, which was incorporated in 1898. A Bronxville address does not prove a home is in the Village of Bronxville.
The Bronxville school district warns: “Some homes in this area have a Bronxville mailing address, but are not within the Bronxville School District.”
The Trap: Reading “Bronxville, NY 10708” as the Village
The city name on an address is the post office name. For most homes with a Bronxville 10708 address, the government is the City of Yonkers: one city and school tax bill, the Yonkers school district and a city income tax surcharge. Confirm the municipality on the roll before comparing prices, taxes or school assignment. Our Scarsdale 10583 guide covers the same trap.

Who Shares ZIP 10708
Five municipal areas share ZIP 10708 in 2020 Census block data, led by the City of Yonkers.
Regional post offices “assign ZIP Codes to delivery routes,” in the Census Bureau’s words. The Census assigns each block to the ZIP most of its addresses use.
| Municipality | Homes in 10708 (2020) | School District Serving That Part |
|---|---|---|
| City of Yonkers | 6,431 (65.5%) | Yonkers City School District |
| Village of Bronxville, Town of Eastchester | 2,505 (25.5%) | Bronxville Union Free School District |
| Town of Eastchester, outside any village | 735 (7.5%) | Tuckahoe Union Free School District |
| City of Mount Vernon | 110 (1.1%) | Mount Vernon City School District |
| Village of Tuckahoe, Town of Eastchester | 43 (0.4%) | Tuckahoe Union Free School District |
Every one of the village’s 2,505 homes uses 10708, but the ZIP code reaches far beyond the village’s 0.97 square miles of land: about three in four homes with the address, 7,319 of 9,824, are outside it.

The Village, the Town and the County
Bronxville is a village, Eastchester is its town and Westchester its county.
When a village is created, the Department of State explains, “its area still remains a part of the town where it is located, and its residents continue to be residents and taxpayers of that town.” The county’s village tax table lists two villages under the Town of Eastchester: Bronxville and Tuckahoe.
“Unlike a city, a village is part of a town,” in the Department of State’s words. Yonkers and Mount Vernon are cities, so a home there pays city taxes and no Town of Eastchester tax. Every part of ZIP 10708 is in Westchester County.
NYS Department of State, Local Government Handbook. Westchester County 2025-26 Village and 2026 City/Town Tax Rates.
Bronxville Is Not the Bronx
Bronxville is in Westchester County. The Bronx is one of New York City’s five boroughs and its own county, Bronx County.
The Department of State describes New York City as “five boroughs coterminous with county boundaries,” with “five counties but no county governments.” Westchester has a county government, and taxable Bronxville and Yonkers properties pay its county tax.
New York City resident income tax, on the state’s 2025 Form IT-201, applies to city residents, a group that “includes the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.” A Bronxville resident does not owe it. The village’s website traces the name to Jonas Bronck, who bought land north of Harlem.

What Changes on the Tax Bill
The tax bills change at the village line. A village home is taxed by the village, the school district, the town, the Eastchester Fire District and the county, on two rolls. A Yonkers home is taxed by the city, which also sets the school tax, and the county.
Inside the Village of Bronxville
The village assesses at 100 percent of market value for village and school taxes, billed together and due in halves by June 30 and December 31. The Town of Eastchester assesses the same house for town, county, fire and county district taxes, due by April 30. For 2026-27 the village rate is $3.5030 per $1,000 and the school district’s estimated rate is $13.2206; the 2026 town-roll rates include $45.6055 for the town and $244.0835 for the Eastchester Fire District. Our Bronxville property tax guide has every levy.
In the Yonkers Part of 10708
The Yonkers school district has no taxing power of its own. The Department of State lists Yonkers among the “Big Five” cities, where “the city council determines the school tax levy” and the school budget is part of the municipal budget, so residents do not vote on a separate school budget.
For July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027, the Yonkers rate is $1,008.86 per $1,000 of assessed value: $421.66 for the city and $587.20 for the school district, on one bill payable in July, October and January. A separate county bill, typically mailed in March, carries the 2026 county rate of $134.11, county refuse at $16.48 and a sewer district at $30.38 to $35.26 per $1,000.
The 735 homes in unincorporated Eastchester pay the town’s general and unincorporated rates, $45.6055 plus $329.6702 per $1,000 in 2026, plus county, fire and county district taxes and a Tuckahoe school tax, all collected by the town.
Never Compare a Yonkers Rate With a Bronxville Rate
Each rate applies to assessed value on its own roll. The Bronxville village roll is at 100 percent of market value. Yonkers has not reassessed since 1954, and the City lists its 2026 roll at 1.41 percent. Applied to a sale price, the Yonkers rate would produce a tax larger than the price itself. Convert each rate to market value first.
| Per $1,000 of Market Value (Estimate) | Village of Bronxville Home | City of Yonkers Home |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment level used | Village roll 100%; 2025 town roll 0.88% | 2026 roll 1.41%; 2025 roll 1.51% |
| Municipal and school, 2026-27 | $16.72 (village $3.50, school $13.22 estimate) | $14.22 (city $5.95, school $8.28) |
| County, town, fire, sewer and refuse, 2026 | $5.63 | $2.77 (county, refuse, average sewer) |
| Total before STAR | About $22.35 | About $17.00 |
These are estimates for a house assessed at its roll’s average level. The Yonkers city and school bill uses the 2026 roll; its 2026 county bill uses the 2025 roll, which the state measured at 1.51 percent for homes. Because Yonkers has not reassessed since 1954, an individual house can sit above or below that average, so the parcel’s actual bill is the only reliable number.
Yonkers residents also owe the resident income tax surcharge, 16.75 percent of net New York State tax; a return with $10,000 of net state tax owes a $1,675 Yonkers surcharge, paid on the state return. Village of Bronxville residents do not. STAR follows the school district: the state’s final 2025 Basic STAR credit was up to $1,012.95 in Bronxville and up to $879.00 in Yonkers.

Market-value figures are our arithmetic: each rate times its roll’s ratio, rounded, so parts may not add exactly. School Districts in 10708
Four school districts have homes with a 10708 address: Yonkers City, Bronxville Union Free, Tuckahoe Union Free and Mount Vernon City. This page states only which district serves which area.
In 2020 Census block data the Bronxville district and the village contain the same 2,505 homes, and the district requires students to be “current residents of the Village of Bronxville.” The Yonkers City School District covers the City of Yonkers; the Department of State says Big Five district boundaries are “coterminous with those of their respective cities.” All 6,431 Yonkers homes with a 10708 address are in it.
Bronxville asks for two or more proofs of residency within district boundaries; Yonkers asks for three proofs of Yonkers residency dated within the last 30 days. Confirm any address with the district before contract.

Services Follow the Municipality
Police, garbage collection, the library and resident parking follow the municipality, not the ZIP code.
Village of Bronxville
A village police department, village collection of refuse and recyclables, and a public library funded through village taxes. Fire and emergency medical service come from the Eastchester Fire District, billed on the town roll.
City of Yonkers
City police and fire departments, city refuse collection from private residences, and a Library Fund for the Yonkers Public Library, all inside the city budget.
The village sells its resident permit, $30 per vehicle per year, only to village residents, for posted Resident spaces in three lots near the Metro-North station; meters still apply unless a separate buyout permit is added. The fastest weekday morning peak train from Bronxville reaches Grand Central in 31 minutes. Our ultimate guide to Bronxville covers the village.

How to Verify Any 10708 Address
Check the roll and the tax bills before an offer becomes a contract.
- Find the assessing unit. A village home appears on the Village of Bronxville roll and the Town of Eastchester roll; a Yonkers home on the City of Yonkers roll. Westchester County links to each assessment page, and its GIS tax parcel viewer shows parcels countywide.
- Read the SWIS code and school district. As a municipal SWIS code, 552401 is the Village of Bronxville and 551800 the City of Yonkers. New York rolls also list each parcel’s school district with its own six-digit code, and the numbers overlap: as a school district code, 552401 is the Eastchester Union Free School District, so read the label beside the number.
- Ask for every recent tax bill. In the village, the village and school bill and the town and county bill. In Yonkers, the city and school bill and the county bill.
- Call the district. Bronxville’s registrars answer at (914) 395-0500, extension 1304 for elementary and 3305 for secondary. Yonkers Public Schools Student Enrollment is at 914-376-8050.
- Note the grievance calendar. The village roll: the third Tuesday in February, next February 16, 2027. The Eastchester town roll: the third Tuesday in June, June 15 in 2027. Yonkers: November 1 to November 15, moved to the next business day when the 15th falls on a weekend (November 17 in 2025); November 15, 2026 is a Sunday, so confirm the date with the City’s Board of Assessment Review.

10708. All 2,505 homes in the Village of Bronxville use it, but in 2020 Census data it also covers 7,319 homes outside the village, most in Yonkers.
A village, with its own mayor, board of trustees, budget and assessor. It is part of the Town of Eastchester, so village homes pay both village taxes and Town of Eastchester taxes.
No. The Bronxville Union Free School District and the village contain the same 2,505 homes in 2020 Census data, and the district requires students to live in the village. Yonkers homes with a 10708 address are in the Yonkers City School District.
Yes. They pay the City of Yonkers rate, $1,008.86 per $1,000 of assessed value for July 2026 to June 2027, $421.66 for the city and $587.20 for the school district, plus a separate county bill. Yonkers assesses at a small fraction of market value (the City lists its 2026 roll at 1.41 percent), so never apply that rate to a sale price. They pay no Village of Bronxville or Town of Eastchester tax.
No. The Yonkers resident income tax surcharge, 16.75 percent of net New York State tax, applies only to Yonkers residents, and that includes residents of the Yonkers part of 10708, about two in three homes with a Bronxville address. A nonresident who earns wages in Yonkers owes a separate nonresident earnings tax.
On our estimate from 2026 and 2026-27 rates (Bronxville’s school rate is the district’s estimate), a house assessed at Yonkers’ average residential level pays about $17 per $1,000 of market value, against about $22.35 for a Village of Bronxville house. Individual Yonkers assessments vary, and Yonkers residents also owe the income tax surcharge.
Look up the parcel on the assessment roll. Municipal SWIS code 552401 means the village (the same number is also the Eastchester school district’s code, so check the label); a City of Yonkers roll entry, SWIS 551800, means Yonkers. Then get every recent tax bill and confirm the school district with the registrar before contract.
